Description
Christie’s Watch Catalogues
The catalogues for watch auctions of the past are not the lush glossy publications that the major auction houses produced in the 1980s – 2010s, but are rather more utilitarian and feature limited numbers of illustrations of the lots that they are selling. These catalogues from Christie’s are all for London sales that include watches.
Sometimes the watches were put in sales alongside mathematical instruments and at other times there are clocks and scientific instruments in the same sale.
You can also chart the importance of the collecting market for each category through these sales. By watch they usually mean pocket watch as this was before the expansion of the wristwatch market.
Each catalogue is in used condition and contains few illustrations. Some have been annotated.
We also have some vintage Sotheby’s watch auction catalogues available.
The white coloured catalogues measure 15.4cm x 24.3cm
The green coloured catalogues measure 18.4cm x 24.1cm
