Brass Candle Holder with Handle and Drip Tray
We have two of these brass candleholders available. They are difficult to date, I think they probably date to the second quarter of the 20th Century.
Sometimes referred to as Wee Willie Winkie lamps, after the character from the Scottish nursery rhyme, they have both a handle and a drip tray. This means that the candleholder can be easily carried ostensibly on your journey from living quarters to sleeping quarters.
The candleholders also have a pusher on the section that holds the candle so that the stub of an extinguished candle can be pushed out, thus enabling a new candle to be inserted.
The bottom section of the handle on one of the holders has become detached from the stem but this doesn’t affect its use. I have polished the brass but there are still a few marks where I haven’t polished hard enough!
