Bone China Spill Vase – Spaniel with Wheatsheaves
This spill vase is very different to the normal Staffordshire production of spill vases featuring dogs. The moulding on the wheatsheaves and the dog is much finer than the rather crude moulding normally found on them and the clay body has the semi-translucence that you get with bone china.
There are no marks to the base of the piece so I can’t tell who made it, or indeed where it was made. I think it was probably designed to just be this white colour, rather than it left a factory before it could be covered in coloured glazes.
Would make a good vase for a small posy of flowers and would sit well in the centre of a mantelpiece. There is a small chip to the internal edge of the wheatsheaf section of the vessel.
