Beth Chatto: A life with plants – Catherine Horwood
Beth Chatto, doyenne of plantspeople, who died in 2018, was one of the most influential gardeners in our history.
Fergus Garrett, head gardener at Great Dixter, says of her “This extraordinary person will touch generations of gardeners to come. Gardeners from all over the world have taken her lead on the right plant, right place and have had our eyes opened to texture, shape and form.”
Beth authorised Catherine Horwood to write this book about Beth’s life and gave her access to notebooks, diaries and personal photograph albums most of which have never been seen before. The book reveals the personal story behind her beliefs, her determination and her success. It also details her great friendships with two of the other giants of UK gardening: Cedric Morris and Christo(pher) Lloyd.
