Gold Audemars Piguet vintage wristwatch, made in 1968
A very fine and slim 18ct yellow gold manually wound wristwatch
Classically 1960s in design, this is an instantly recognisable Audemars Piguet model with its extremely handsome, slim case. Audemars Piguet had an established tradition of producing thin watch movements of the highest quality and, in 1946, the company launched their extra slim calibre 2003 which is the movement found in this watch. The calibre has an astonishing height of just 1.64mm and thus enabled the production of extremely thin wristwatch cases. The movement is beautifully finished with a damascened (wave patterned) surface. The 18ct gold case of this wristwatch has an angular appearance with chamfered bezel and finely down-turned lugs and is the quintessential dress watch. The dial layout, with long slim baton numerals, is one that was favoured by Audemars Piguet.
This model is illustrated in a white metal case in: Brunner, G., Pfeiffer-Belli, C & Wehrli, M., Audemars Piguet, Second Edition, 2000, pl.437, p.268.
