Description
A Book of Mediterranean Food by Elizabeth David
First published in 1950 this title has been unavailable as a hardback title for over 30 years. This is a facsimile edition of the original legendary cookbook.
The book has been celebrated by many contemporary cooks and chefs such as Jeremy Lee, jamie Oliver, Simon Hopkinson and Alice Waters. The book is a passionate mixture of recipes and culinary lore.
David collected the recipes when she was living in France, Italy, the Greek islands and Egypt; doing her own cooking and collecting recipes first hand. The recipes within would have been startling to some UK readers in the 1950s: Soupe au Pistou, Skordalia, poulet au noix and more.
All good cookery books should be enjoyable to read as well as to cook from and the author has included pieces on the eating habits of different nations as well as descriptions of memorable meals and more. The original illustrations by John Minton are also present in this edition.
