A Beautiful Obsession – Jimi Blake & Noel Kingsbury
Jimi Blake’s garden is Hunting Brook which is in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland. One of the things that he has achieved in those gardens is a tradition shattering way of combining plants which has led to a sea change in the way that we think about plants and gardens. It is worth having a look at a fantastic appearance that he made on Gardener’s World where he gets Monty Don to join him on a trampoline in the garden in order to appreciate it from a different perspective!
He guides us through the gardens at Hunting Brook in this book and reveals the thinking behind some of his idiosyncratic planting and also supplies invaluable lists of plants with exceptionally long flowering seasons and how to extend the sense of summer in a garden.
Noel Kingsbury has co-authored this book with Jimi Blake and in the first sections of the book he takes the tour around Hunting Brook interspersed with the tale of something of Jimi’s personal journey.
The attitude to gardening at Hunting Brook is partly given away in the endpapers of the book which feature tropical foliage and glitterballs!
