Kotatsu is the name of a new online business that a friend of ours has just launched. Based at the far reaches of the Clun valley, one of the prettiest parts of Shropshire, Kaori Richards sells a great range of Japanese products from vintage textiles to lacquerware and paper products.
Kaori had given me one of these boxes of toothpicks or cocktail sticks a few years ago and it sits in our living room. It took me more than a year to realise that it was a box and that it had contents as the fit of the two halves of the box is so snug that I hadn’t realised that there were two parts to it. I can vouch for the toothpicks as well, but really it is the stark print on the box and the neat execution that makes it stand out.
